For as long as I can remember, organisational culture has been something I've held a deep interest in and has lay at the heart of my work in one way or another.
It’s something I’ve explored deeply through my experiences working in and with different organisations both within healthcare and previously the private sector, alongside countless books and podcasts all of which have played a part in shaping my thinking and enabled me to develop my own organisational culture models.
Yet at the back of my mind there has always been a sense that a key part of my jigsaw is missing.
I finally think I've found it!
Owen Eastwood’s book, Belonging has been the most impactful discovery in my journey of understanding culture. 📚✨
Belonging offers what felt like a missing piece—explaining why culture is not just an abstract concept but a fundamental part of who we are as humans.
The book highlights how belonging is hardwired into us; it influences our sense of purpose, engagement, and even performance at work. 🌍💼
Eastwood’s insights about how leaders can foster a sense of belonging through shared identity, values, and rituals resonated deeply with me. I now see even more clearly how essential this is to not only high-performing teams but to our well-being as individuals.
As I reflect on my work with individuals, teams and organisations, it’s clear that culture-building is not a “nice-to-have” but the core of meaningful, sustainable success.
I know that my model will continue to evolve as I work with more organisations and listen to the perspectives of their people, read more and explore other sources but for now I look forward to building all that Belonging offers into my work.
