🌱 What Environment Are You Creating? 🌱

I’ve been reading Atomic Habits by James Clear for a second time and came across this powerful quote:

"Environment is the invisible hand that shapes human behaviour. Despite our unique personalities, certain behaviours tend to arise again and again under certain environmental conditions. In church, people tend to talk in whispers. On a dark street, people act wary and guarded. In this way, the most common form of change is not internal, but external: we are changed by the world around us. Every habit is context dependent."

This plays into the with the work I'm currently doing around leadership and team culture. Too often, we focus solely on individual development and performance, overlooking the broader environment that influences and shapes behaviour. But as Clear points out, our environment is crucial—it silently yet powerfully nudges us towards certain actions and attitudes.

Leaders have a responsibility to create environments where people can thrive, feel trusted, and bring their best selves to work. That means intentionally shaping cultures that foster collaboration, encourage innovation, and support well-being.

Ask yourself: What environment am I creating for my team, my colleagues, or even my own personal happiness?

It’s not just about setting goals or pushing for results—it’s about cultivating the right conditions for success. Because when we get the environment right, the behaviours and outcomes follow.
