Legacy

šŸ“š I've just finished reading James Kerr's powerful book "Legacy"! 🌟 He delves into the leadership principles of the legendary All Blacks rugby team, offering invaluable lessons that are applicable to any business. The four that stood out to me were

1ļøāƒ£ Embrace a Strong Team Culture: The All Blacks prioritise team unity above everything, fostering a culture of respect and accountability.

2ļøāƒ£ Focus on Character over Talent: I love the concept of "sweeping the sheds," something I first heard about from Dan Carter. Sweeping the sheds is where everyone, even the most accomplished players, take responsibility for menial tasks, something that promotes humility and leads to innovation, increased self knowledge and greater character. This, in turn, helps build a sustainable competitive advantage

3ļøāƒ£ Leadership by Example: Captains like Richie McCaw epitomise servant leadership, leading through action rather than words.

4ļøāƒ£ Adaptability and Resilience: The All Blacks thrive under pressure, showcasing resilience and adaptability in the face of challenges.

My single favourite line from the book is a quote from Buckminster Fuller - an American architect, systems theorist, writer, ,designer, inventor, philosopher and futurist who asked "what is my job on this planet? what is it that needs doing, that I know something about, that probably won't happen unless I take responsibility for it?"

"Legacy" is a treasure trove of leadership wisdom, offering actionable strategies for building high-performing teams and achieving sustained success. Highly recommend for leaders in any field
